Yet another “big” announcement from Dana White?!

UFC 84 will have it’s cable premiere this Saturday night. Dana White will be making “a special announcement” during the broadcast. Standing alone, without context, one could say “ANOTHER announcement??” and recall the last “big” announcement, that was delayed, rescheduled, delayed and rescheduled as the fans were pushed around and played with before Dana announced about the announcement that it wasn’t going to be a big deal, really. Then the announcement turned out to be lighters, a credit card, some figurines and then that Lorenzo Fertitta was stepping down and going to help Dana. Wow.
So, without context what will this “big” announcement be? Will he announce about the announcement that it has been rescheduled to a few days hence, before rescheduling that “reschedulement”? Or will he stick to his word and make the announcement as planned?
Will it be about UFC Beer Coasters with fighters on it? Rickson water bottles made from Nerf material so cornermen can bounce them off the opposing team’s heads w/o injury? UFC Under-roos? (FTR I had Superman and my brother had Batman and we used to pretend we were the superheros and “fight” it out…), BJ Penn is going to Heavyweight to fight Nog? Or is he going to WEC to fight Miguel Torres at 135# or a newly created Gnatweight at 105#s? Maybe Anderson Silva will take the spot vacated by Lorenzo?
Now, let’s add some context.
Does anyone recall a few weeks back when Dana announced a surprise UFC Fight Night Card (14) on…by coincidence of course, the SAME exact night that Affliction: Banned was to debut with an event that garnered the entire MMA world’s attention? Someone took a slice of Dana’s pie and everyone glanced away and he simply couldn’t have that. All of a sudden he cares so much about the fans that he just out of the blue want to give them a free card? Oh and while I have you “believer’s” attention, I just found out Fedor will be fighting Gina Carano…or is it Kimbo Slice? I get those two confused all the time.
Kind of slimy, but Dana has been trying to maintain a monopoly on the sport for some time, which he thought he was on his way to doing when he bought Pride and it accidentally “died”. and by snatching up the WEC. He was well on his way, until the sport’s popularity just steamrolled on and organization’s like EliteXC and DREAM were nibbling away at his cheese, proving that though the UFC brand is popular and is still the most popular brand, people are becoming fans of the sport of MMA, and just want to see good fights which of course, no brand has the monopoly on or ever will.
So, is anyone shocked that Dana has announced and announcement while EliteXC’s “Unfinished Business” is having an event that looks pretty darn promising instead of announcing the announcement while he was announcing? So should we NOT watch EliteXC’s live event and watch an old UFC of fights that not only has everyone seen, but you can watch them on any of the 7 INtranets? Should we skip the rematch of what was turning out to be FOTR between Robbie Lawler and Scott Smith and instead stand by for Dana’s announcement about GSP Bumper stickers?
What say you MMA fans?
Stumble it!
