TUF 8 Episode 9: “Out of touch with reality”!

Pee Shooters!
This week’s episode I call “Out of touch with reality” because it seemed to revolve around the delusions of Frank Mir and David Kaplan. Kaplan’s delusion is simply a continuance of last week’s. Some of you may recall last week, After getting almost KOed on his feet by Phillipe Nover, he then pulled guard, only to get it passed and for Nover to rain done strikes to get him to expose his back, which Nover promptly took and choked him out. The delusion began in the post-fight interview where Kaplan states he still thinks he’s the better fighter. This week he rants on and on how he can’t get knocked out. On other blogs they have stated it was something he stated time and again.

Anyhow, Kaplan decides to swallow his sorrows in Vodka. He gets completely wrecked and Tom Lawlor joins him. First Vodka, then urine. Yes, after slamming back a few shots, they decided to “shoot” each other’s pee. They are drinking all night and before you know it Kaplan is running around in his speedos. He eventually starts in again how he can’t be KOed and he wants to demonstrate his iron chin by having Lawlor take a punch at him. Lawlor is hesitant, but Kaplan is far more persistent. Lawlor obliges by snoring Kaplan.

As can clearly be seen: Kaplan is completely KOed. He wakes up to deny that he was KOed. He continues to do so the next day in the interview room in front of the camera while he is sober. Obviously, he lives in a galaxy far, far, away from reality. In his defense, he probably thought that was the best time to take a quick nap and just by coincidence it happened at the same time Lawlor decided to punch him.

Fight Announcement!
As has become tradition in the house when it’s someone’s fight day, someone gets pranked. Since the fight announced is Krysztof Soszynski vs. Kyle Kingsbury, the house pretty much decides to move every possible object into Krysztof’s room and tape a sign that says “UFC Storage Room” on it. Krysztof returns from training and takes it well, as he should since he is behind 90% of the practical jokes in the house.

Dan Henderson, who is a coach/training partner of Krysztof’s he pops in for a training session and support. He states that he has seen Krysztof train and fight with far worse injuries than his possibly broken thumb.

Krysztof gets revenge by stacking the dining table, all the plates, and dining ware outside on the basketball court at 2 a.m., so when everyone wakes for breakfast they will have to go out of their way.

Coach’s Challenge!
Now we get to check out Mir’s struggle with reality. Everyone shows up on a Soccer field and BLAF is there with his $10,000 cash for the winning coach and $1,000 for that coach’s athletes. BLAF syas that the first coach to score 10 free kicks on the opposing coach acting as goalkeeper wins. To everyone’s surprise, Nog says he never played Soccer which levels the playing field. Mir goes on to do far worse in spite of Nog’s lack of experience. Nog’s fighters taunt Mir and he is getting real angry “At first I was really upset with them, as far as how disrespectful they are, but then I realized a lot of them are losers. They’ll never be studs. That’s just the way it is.” Mir then goes on to lose.

He then rambles on to the camera how he really kind of won, because he gave Nog a run for his money, only losing by a few points. He feels if he played competitively lasted with someone that is Brazilian and obviously really good at Soccer, it goes to show that he is a better athlete. He can jump higher, run faster, etc. Lost on him is that it WASN’T Soccer & that Nog never played. Mir is just showing in each episode how arrogant and obnoxious he can be.

Krysztof Soszynski vs. Kyle Kingsbury
The fight doesn’t last long. There are a few skirmishes, with Krysztof getting the better of them and a few clinches. After about a minute, Kyle gets a bodylock and takes down Krysztof and lands in his closed guard. Showing FANTASTIC fundamentals begins to immediately climb with his legs. Kyle is postured real low, and this allows Krysztof to place his legs on Kyle’s shoulder blades. A minor weight shift and Krysztof snatches an armbar, belly down. Kyle hasn’t tapped, so showing solid fundamentals again, he arches his back and drives his hips down and solicits the tap.

Krysztof leaps up and yells “I got jiu jitsu too!”. Indeed he does. The first pick fighter shows why he was picked first. No shame in Kyle’s game as he showed some decent skill and confidence. He states it won’t be the last of him that we will see. Kyle is a class act.

Nog is all class as usual, and states that even though Kyle lost, he is still the team leader. I am not sure if it’s just Nog being classy or if it’s really true. Kyle demonstrating that he feels it to be the case, gets everyone to huddle and cheer for more wins.

Next week’s teaser shows that the episode will revolve around a fight between George Roop chronic hugger John Polakowski.

On Bader’s Blog he explains the reasoning behind the pee shooters.

Also, enough can’t be said about the sheer awesomeness that is Ken Han’s Blog. He attaches a striking lesson and an accompanying video with each episode’s blog. Som of the best MMA blogging on all 5 interwebs.
